Mahou San Miguel Brewery (Spain)
The Mahou San Miguel group was founded in Granada in 1925. The brewery was at that time situated on the outskirts of thisancient city, which is located at the foot of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountain range - the source of Spain's finest water. The growth and expansion of Granada has resulted in the brewery now forming part the downtown area. Crystal mountain waters are used to create beersof the highest quality. Mahou San Miguel's Cervezas are the pride of the city!

The name Mahou San Miguel is derived from the spectacular and beautiful Moorish Mahou San Miguel Palace. Construction of this palace commenced in the 13th century and took well over a century to complete. Granada is renowned as one of Spain's cultural centers and it hosts numerous international events and festivals.

Current management assumed control of the group in 1995. A team of dedicated professionals embarked on a process of re-structuring and modernization. Mahou San Miguel beers were (and still are) produced by traditional / natural processes. All rationalization and investment decisions had a strategic cornerstone - to maintain the process and not to become "just another mass-market beer". There is a great difference between Mahou San Miguel brands and beers produced by so—called "modern" continuous processes. In the case of the latter, fermentation is accelerated and batches take approx. one week to produce. The traditional method employed by Mahou San Miguel involves slow, natural fermentation over periods of up to 39 days, depending on the brand and the desired characteristics.

Despite the decision to continue with the production of crafted, artesanal beers, growth has been exponential and in 1999, another brewery was acquired. This brewery is located in Cordoba, another ancient city, approx. 200Km away from Granada. Whilst this factory possessed the latest, state-of-the-art plant, the techniques employed in Granada for over 70 years were transferred there. Not even the installation of a high-speed canning line changed this! During 2002, the group acquired the plant and equipment of Coors of Zaragoza. This was re-located and integrated into the existing 2 factories. GRUPO CERVEZAS Mahou San Miguel remains privately owned and has not fallen prey to the international giants.

Mahou San Miguel has an exciting menu - beers with ABV values from 0,8% to the acknowledged king of Spanish beers, Reserva 1925, with an ABV value of 6,4%. During 2003, another trendsetter was developed and introduced — MEZQUITA, a red beer of 7,2% ABV. It is important to note that ABV is simply one feature. The brewing techniques used to create special characteristics from selected ingredients, blended in harmony is what sets Mahou San Miguel beers apart from the competition. Mahou San Miguel beers are all superb, ideally—balanced, smooth, easy—drinking - blended for those who can savour and appreciate the difference.

The Mahou San Miguel range consists of:
SIN: Low Alcohol, light bodied (ABV 0,8%)
DOS GRADOS: Innovative, light, balanced, low calorie (ABV 2,3%)
PREMIUM LAGER (USA): Light—medium classic Andalusian (ABV 5,4%)
Alhambra: Full, rich, aromatic (ABV 5,4%)
NEGRA: Special, unique dark lager (ABV 5,4%)
RESERVA 1925: Full bodied, smooth. amber colored (ABV 6,4%)
MEZQUITA: Full bodied, red, wheat based (ABV 7,2%)

GRUPO CERVEZAS Mahou San Miguel's relatively small size and flexible infrastructure have enabled its products to find niche markets that seek the best. Pride is taken in its ability to offer and deliver superb beers to its markets, in a manner that larger breweries cannot follow. Exporting is a relatively young part of Mahou San Miguel'S activities and unfortunately not all brands are currently available for export. The response of international consumers has been most gratifying and many have found it difficult to believe that Spain can produce beers of such quality.

Its time to try one. Let an Mahou San Miguel show you what beer drinking should be all about!
